Mmmmm…. Spring Break

So I was totally going to make a big post about how amazingly awesome my friends and family made my birthday, but then I realized I had Midterms. I did receive some amazing presents, which of course means that I need to make a top five list.
My Top Five Birthday Presents (as judged by the fact that I’ve used them a ton)
1) Ipod speakers, from Mom and Dad, these are actually better than my computer speakers and I love, love, love them.
2) Bubbles, from Clare, I just love bubbles, so I walked around quite a bit blowing bubbles and having a generally good time
3)Rubber Ball from Kate, it’s one of those big Bouncy ones that are in the tall crates at Walgreen’s and stuff, you always want one but never actually buy one. It’s pretty cool
4) Long Sleeve t-shirts,from Mom and Dad they don’t sound so important but I’ve worn them both as layers and they’re warm and wonderful.
5)Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire DvD, from some subset of people at Stolaf (sorry guys not sure exactly who) Nuff Said.

Now Midterms are over and I’m about 2 days into Spring Break. So far it’s been really restful, mostly because my family is in Mexico, so it’s been just me and the cats (and ferrets, chinchilla, llama, and alpacas). I got home at about 5 on Friday and decided to try on my formal dresses, so I could see if I wanted to wear one to the President’s Ball at school, I like them alright but only one really spoke to me then, of course I do need to add foundation garments and try again. Anyway I also took out my cloak and was swooshing around being a mysterious fairy princess (I was de-stressing after driving for an hour and a half in rush hour traffic ok?) when suddenly out neighbor/pet sitter comes in. Well a quick change later I explained that I was home and had taken care of the pets but she was welcome to stay if she wanted to (poor girl has 2 younger brothers) so we ordered pizza and watched GoF. The I took her home and went upstairs to fetch this and this and I proceeded to watch Sweeney Todd and teach myself how to crochet.
I learned to crochet
I did it I made this thing

I have dubbed it The Crochet Afghan of Crap this title enables me to learn and to make mistakes and to do things I would never ever do with a carefully thought out and patterned knitted garment, like crochet in the Hot Tub, which I did in fact do yesterday. It was fun, but I was worried and barely got the thing wet before I gave up. I did get a bit done though. Then I went back to knitting. I was working on Tubey which looks like this:
when suddenly the kitten attacked and bit through my yarn! It was horrible, but mostly because when I was spit splicing the yarn back together (fully appreciating the wool) I realized something that made my blood run cold. For the second time this year I had come home hoping to finish a major project and go back all happy and wearing it only to realize that I had left the rest of the yarn at school. Words cannot contain how upset with myself I was, I now have to make a tough choice. Which do I want more, a finished sweater or about $18 more for NYC. I think I’ll just do a bit of extra work around the house and buy the yarn, because as this is a NYC inspired sweater I’d love to wear it there, but we’ll see. I may just get lost in the rolling purple hills:

While I was in a panic about what to do about the yarn situation I made these:

What are they? Well I wanted to make something stuffed and circular so I made a couple of balls and stuffed one with catnip and gave them to the Cats. Jane is getting too old to play much and Monty at first showed little interest, but when I first resigned myself to that thought a ruckus erupted in the living room and there was Monty attacking the catnip ball all across the room. SO i guess he likes it after all. He’s purring for it right now, but he purrs a lot , like constantly, as in if you look at him he’ll purr. Anyway so after deciding on a needle size (one was too big) I cast on this:

Thus far it is called “Some kinda animal” I may change its name to something like Sterence at some point, but right now I’m not sure what it’ll look like so it’s just going.

And Now For Something Completely Different
I did something pretty cool today, I recorded an Odeo audioblog today, here it is it was cool, Amyknitty put me onto it, but I should have waited to read blogs (remember it’s Sunday today)till after lunch, because I couldn’t stop. Anyway I finally made lunch which was homemade Pizza, Italian style.

first I was a saucy wench

then I was pretty peppy

by this time I was downright cheesy, but there is no way to make Italian Sausage any more sexy than it already is so I added that and forgot to take a picture and then I popped it in the oven and a mere 10 minutes later

perfection
So far a good day, I may make it better by going to Pride and Prejudice tonight, not to mention using the rest of that Italian sausage in my favorite food for dinner (Spaghetti!!!) But right now I need to work on the cleaning Mom and Dad have me doing and I need to finish updating the sidebar (hopelessly out of date).

Snowy

So I’m back now. I was going Cold Turkey off blogs but now I’m getting used to the aching pain in my soul where the daily adventures of Wendy, Stephanie, and Amy usually reside. Naturally there are more, but I can’t name them all and making these links creates temptation that’s so hard. Speaking of the word ‘so’ I said it very Minnesotan today, for those not familiar with the Minnesotan accent it involves holding vowels extra long. But that is not the relevant point, today we had a blizzard. I’m talking a 10 inch accumulation of snow that started last night and ended sometime around 2 today. It was brilliant, except for the part where I had to walk around outside in it when I didn’t want to. But on my way to my later class I brought my camera to capture the snowy beauty.

This is from the window at the end of the hallway on the 4th floor (where I live). This was just the start, I think I took about 20 pics (you only have to look at 10).
So on Friday my friends and I were all bored so we went out and had a mud fight, it was that warm. with the result that at 8 this morning I saw these

quite a change from the Spring-type weather we had on Friday.

At least the Staff at my Hall do a good job of clearing the side walk, but it ended pretty quick and I got to wade through lots of snow; there was also sliding, not fun.

They got to the clearing eventually, but this was about 2 pm after I had floundered around quite a bit in snow. Not to mention that we were one of the only schools in the state to have class today. I could have used it, I had a midterm today at 8, in Greek. Never a pleasant experience.

I love this pic, I think it looks like Hogwarts, which I personally believe this is. Instead of reading comments just linger on this pic and the next few a bit longer, they’re all just really cool.

This was what gave me the idea to bring my camera with me, I saw these branches and I just thought, “I need to take a picture of these before it all melts”. It was a good idea.

The railing outside class, really gorgeous.

And finally at class, safe, sound, wet, but there. The snow was pretty, I hop it stays for a bit, I’m pretty tired from that Midterm and I would still like to play in the snow.
Let’s see, wrapping up, I’m not reading Les Mis anymore, I gave up for now. Seeing the show was really just the end for me, for a but at least. And I got into a really Harry Potter mood so I’m rereading Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince. Good times. Tubey is progressing, I’m about 3/4 dome with the sleeves and then I can hopefully rip out the body and wear this bad boy while there’s still a chill in the air. That’s all for now, more when there’s more to talk about!

Why?

Why is it that on Sunday, the one day a week in Lent that I can read blogs (I gave them up for lent, hence my absence for the last couple weeks) is the day before a midterm. I should not be reading blogs, but I am. And why? Because for the second time immediately preceeding a Greek Midterm I am sick. Not horribly sick, but still sick. It just generally sucks. I had a FO, but I neglected to take pics. I should really get back to studying, I took enough time off to read a weeks worth of blog entries… byes!
